This year we should all aim for better eye health! Here are 5 resolutions that you and I can make together this year for healthier eyes!
WEAR SUNGLASSES
The first resolution is to wear sunglasses whenever outdoors, specifically sunglasses that block 99 to 100% of UV-A and UV-B rays. Sun exposure can make a lot of eye conditions worse, including cataracts, pterygia which are these wing-shaped growths on the eye caused by sun exposure, and dry eyes. You can even develop eyelid and eye cancers.
EAT HEALTHY
Next, we should all eat healthy in general, and there are certain vitamins and supplements that are not just good for your body but also good for your eyes! I’m going to make sure I eat a lot of my leafy greens, colorful vegetables, and nuts, as well as more flaxseed oil and omega-3 oils this year. Be sure to watch my video about foods for your eyes to learn why!
TAKE BREAKS AT THE COMPUTER AND PHONE
Let’s take breaks while we are at the computer and phone! We have all been home a lot more these past two years and all this screen time has really dried out and strained our eyes. My goal this year is to take regular breaks and follow the 20-20-20 rule. Based on this rule, for every 20 minutes on the computer or phone, we should take a 20 second break and look 20 feet away. This rule will help prevent eye strain and tired eyes.
DON'T UNINTENTIALLY HARM YOUR EYES!
Also, let’s make sure we don’t do anything that will harm our eyes! This means avoiding contact lens abuse, rubbing our eyes, and generally keeping away from harm. You might want to watch my video on 5 things I would never do to find out some common things that can really hurt your eyes.
AND THE LAST TIP…
The best thing you can do for your eyes is to subscribe to my channel. Just kidding - but I do advise that we all be more proactive about our health. Make sure you get regular annual eye examinations and see your eye doctor immediately with any new or sudden symptoms.
Cheers to a healthy and happy year!
